Something Cold! = Traditional Ice Desserts

If the last post of me is Traditional Snack, these below are traditional ice desserts that we all are always craving for!

Sadly, some of these ice are so hard to find, because of the generation changes, these traditional ice desserts are now somehow "losing" from the modern desserts in malls.

Hope my kids later could enjoy these superb desserts!

ES DOGER (DOGER ICE). This is so 90's! and now it's only IDR 2.000 (not even $1). It's a blended Tapai ice with black sticky rice, nut, sogu, Tapai and chocolate milk on top. It's usually served in plastic glass for children, and it's real tasty :) .. too bad we can't find this easily, we have to search to small streets to find it :(

ES PODENG (PODENG ICE). It's almost the same with ES DOGER, the difference is the Ice in Es Doger is made of Tapai, while in Es Podeng is made of blended milk ice. Still served in nut, chocolate, sago, black sticky rice and slices of Avocado! It's sweet and smells nice  because of the milk :) . You still can find this on the streets.

ES CENDOL (CENDOL ICE). Cendol is actually our calling for the green "noodles" on the ice. These green "noodles" are made of flour, sago and pandan. It is made just look like noodles. Usually we have this Cendol with Ice Blended and melted brown sugar. The Cendol is plain, but combine with blended ice and melted brown sugar makes it sweet and tasty.

ES RUMPUT LAUT (Seaweed Ice). This seaweed ice is served with coconut milk and melted brown sugar. So it tastes sweet and cold #ofcouse :p .

ES KACANG MERAH (RED BEAN ICE). We can also find this ice on Malls, it' still easy to have. This red bean ice is a mix of blended ice and red bean. Sometimes it's served with syrup or melted brown sugar.

ES CAMPUR (MIXED ICE). Just like the name of this ice, it's a mixed of lots of things : Jelly, Fruits, Sago. Served with syrup and ice. We can find it on streets or mall.

ES TELER. Es Teller usually sold with Es Campur, they are like hansel and gretel :D . It's the same Ice but different ingredients. Es Teler is simply Ice with White Milk, Jakefruit, Avocado, and Slices of coconut.

ES BUAH (FRUIT ICE). This ice is probably the common ice among the others, it's simply mixed of fruits with ice and milk. We also call it Fruit Soup :D

ES PISANG IJO (GREEN BANANA ICE). It's actually a banana ice! and yes i didn't typo, it's GREEN! This Blended Ice with syrup is served with a green banana. It's actually a banana wrapped in a green skin made of flour and Pandan.

ES KELAPA (COCONUT ICE). This drink is what we all looking for when it comes to hot weather.
It's best to have this ice with lemon :)

Hope you can taste these traditional desserts in your visit to Indonesia :)
even you have to give more effort to have some of these desserts ;D

Hope you enjoy reading Hello Djakarta, will come back with our other daily activities :D

Indonesian's Traditional Snack

Chitato ..

Lays..

Pringles..

Tango..

and lots of snacks we've known, okay they are snacks that we can meet in all minimarkets in Indonesia.

and

These are the snacks that maybe you don't know and can't find it in all minimarkets. The price? so cheap that it won't hurt you to buy a dozen :D
Meet our Traditional Snack :

LUPIS

Lupis in one of our popular and favourite traditional cake. Made of sticky rice and Pandan make this cake teribbly tasty. Served with melted brown sugar and coconut sprinkles.
It's green (from Pandan) and it's wrapped in leaf and always in triangle form, when it's triangle  wrapped in leaf okay it's Lupis haha

CENIL

CENIL is made from sago. It usually comes with colours. It also served with coconut sprinkles and melted brown sugar or white sugar depends on how you like it :D
Since it made out of sago, it so springy but it's really tasty.

PUTU MAYANG

It's famous in India and usually Indian people who makes it. But i don't know how it got so popular here and has become one of Indonesian's traditional snack. It's served with white sugar and coconut sprinkles or melted brown sugar with chopped jackfruit.

BUBUR SUMSUM

Made of wheat or oat - boiled in water or milk, it's the thinner version of porridge (gruel). It's served with sweet potato balls and melted brown sugar. The gruel taste soft and salty, so perfect to combine with the sweet of melted brown sugar and sweet potato.

Actually there are still so many traditional snack around Indonesia but these mentioned are some of the favorite around the Indonesia.

You almost can't find these snacks on modern market, you have to go the Traditional Market or on the streets.

Thanks for reading and will keep you posted :D

Indonesian's Breakfast

Hello again..

Today i want to show you Indonesian's Brakfast.. Some of you may think that we maybe have a breakfast in cafe or something, but when you live here everyday, these are our daily breakfast :

1. NASI UDUG / NASI LEMAK
It's a rice cooked with coconut milk, and we called it NASI (Rice) UDUG or NASI LEMAK (fat).
it usually served with eggs, chicken / fish, chili, and tempe.

2. NASI KUCING (Cat Rice) / NASI PERANG (War Rice)
The reason we called this dish Cat Rice / War Rice is because it's served in tiny amount of rice. So actually 1 is never will enough for you.

it usually wrapped in leaves and served with nut and terifish.

3. BAKMI AYAM (Chicken Noodles)
It's a bowl of noodles with chicken and vegetables and there are soooo many type of Bakmi Ayam based on the city the seller's from. There is Bakmi Bangka, Bakmi Medan (pork), Bakmi Betawi, etc.
But usually they are served with chicken and vegetables even though they have different taste.

4.  LONTONG SAYUR
It's molded rice and served with Curry, egg, tofu and vegetables such as squash and beans.

5. NASI KUNING (Yellow Rice)
It's basically rice, and the yellow colour is from turmeric that is cooked with the rice. The complement is the same with nasi udug/nasi lemak.

and those are some of the breakfast menus we Indonesian usually eat in the morning, before go to work/school/etc.

will show you some traditional cake in Indonesia that will never die and always on everybody's list .

See you on the next post ^^

Street Food : Pempek Suka Rasa (Palembang)

Hello Mockingjays!

This is one of my favorite place to eat Pempek! Fish made food from Palembang which you can have it fried or boiled.

What special here is the taste! I can say that they have the best taste of Pempek here.

Here you can find types of Pempek, you can have a round one, long one, curly one and fish skin. It's all made of the same fish just different type of form. Usually we will mix up some in one plate :)

Since it's a street food well you can't have an air conditioned room nor cozy sofa. But trust me it's worth it :)

Pempek Suka Rasa is on Bonong Indah, West Jakarta.

Oh yeah, and it's also served with noodles, EBI (shrimp) and chopped cucumber.

Trust me it's Real Goooddd :))

Other than Pempek, you an have this Tekwan which taste real good too.

Eating those two, we can also eat this crackers which is also from Palembang.

Taste good, healthy and of course it's cheaper :)
